Wine List
Killiecrankie is proud to have continued to win acclaim through awards for our wine list.
We always attempt to mix classics with new and challenging examples from the constantly improving vinous world. A good example of this is a new take on burgundy, where the makers of Adamas have deliberately taken their skills of judgement, buying and blending to create not only typical examples of the appellations concerned, but also to deliberately de-mystify some of the terminology – and the wines are so perfectly pitched we have followed them. Keep an eye out for them in the Burgundy section.
Awards & Acknowledgements - We are delighted to be given a Notable Wine List award in 2009 from the AA. Also, rather flatteringly, we were included in a book entitled THE TOP 100 UK RESTAURANT WINE LISTS along with other worthy establishments such as Gordon Ramsay’s etc. We were 24th in the UK and 2nd in Scotland, interestingly though, we were 1st for ‘value’. You get more flavour for your pound here!!!
Our house wines are chosen for character and choice and above average quality; these are always available by varietal (grape), and by the glass. At the other end of the scale, we list some really fine clarets and burgundies at very reasonable prices as well as a good range of half bottles. Sprinkled about are some of those ‘de rigueur’ names such as Cloudy Bay and the trendy and justifiably sought-after Billecart Salmon champagne.
This year we have added a pink Tempranillo, a Ribera del Duero, a dashing New Zealand Riesling from Three Stones and an astoundingly good super sauvignon from Chile in ‘Amplus’.
We have two main suppliers – Inverarity Vaults and Irvine Robertson Wines. Both are autonomous, independently owned Scottish companies of note, who combine quality with a high degree of training and service, - useful in our lovely rural position. We work closely with them to keep our list correct, current and hopefully informative without being either patronising or bland in their notes.
We do hope you will enjoy trying out our selection at peace and leisure, with friends or alone, as wine engenders goodwill - whatever the occasion! .
Wine Services
- As our wine list is fairly comprehensive we try to make the task of choosing a wine for your meal easier by making specific recommendations on the menu for wines to accompany each main dish. However, please do not hesitate to ask should you wish to discuss your selection further.
- We are also able to organise wine weekends that can be either corporate or family & friends orientated. One of our friendly wine merchants will be happy to come along, match wonderful wines to delicious food and talk about them in a light hearted yet informative way. We will be happy to tailor to your individual requirements.
